4 inches of snow? No problem for the 2014 Buick Regal.

2014 Buick Regal AWD taking a calming drive through the Tundra.

Adding to the technology, safety and styling enhancements of the redesigned Buick Regal is the newly developed advanced all wheel drive! That’s right, thanks to Buick engineers you can couple the performance of the Buick Regal (Including the Regal GS) with an all wheel drive system that will make dealing with our North Eastern Ohio winters a cake walk!

However, the Buick Regal’s on demand all wheel drive system isn’t just meant to get you through wintery weather. It’s also designed to help provide better control in all weather conditions, including dry surfaces. Here’s how the system works: power is distributed based on vehicle data and driver input from the front to rear and side to side.  These same ideas are applied during the spirited driving and even emergency maneuvers on dry or wet pavement. Combine this with the HiPer Strut and the end result is a vehicle with enhanced control when a driver needs traction the most.

AWD is available on all of the 2014 Buick Regal Models that are equipped with the all new 2.0L Turbo engine. This combination produces 259 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque! The Regal became the 4th vehicle to in the current lineup to offer AWD. To learn more about how the advanced AWD system works feel free to email us at SweeneySales@SweeneyCars.com. The National Museum for Corvettes was dealt a major blow this week, and then given some relief.

If you’re a lover of Corvettes, then by now you have heard about the 40 foot sinkhole that opened up under the National Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky earlier this week. Unfortunately, several historic Corvettes were damaged during the incident. The Corvettes that are held here are some of the most important in the history of the brand. Including the 1,000,000th Corvette produced!

Chevrolet couldn’t just stand by and let anyone handle the restoration. That’s why today, General Motors announced that they will be handling the restoration for the museum. Even though the museum isn’t a part of General Motors, the company still felt that it was important that the restoration be handled properly.

GM Executive Vice President of Product Development Mark Ruess had this to say about the project: “The vehicles at the National Corvette Museum are some of the most significant in automotive history, There can only be one 1-millionth Corvette ever built. We want to ensure as many of the damaged cars are restored as possible so fans from around the world can enjoy them when the Museum reopens.”

The design process will be overseen by VP of Global Design Ed Welburn. The process should work like this: First, they recover the Corvettes from inside the sinkhole. After they are recovered, they will take them to Mechanical Assembly Facility, which is a small specialty shop contained within GM’s design headquarters. From there, they will figure out the best way to properly restore the vehicles.

Take a look at some of the vehicles that were damaged in the sinkhole:

This is the 1993 Corvette ZR-1 Spyder, less than 12 were ever produced.

The 2009 Corvette ZR-1 also known as the "Blue Devil" was also damaged in the accident.

How to: Winterize your car

Winterize your car to make sure you don't end up like this!

With the impending storms headed right for us, we wanted to take a few minutes to make sure everyone knew how to winterize their cars. Just as its necessary to put on your hat, scarves and gloves when you leave your home to face these negative temperatures there are a few things you should do for your vehicle to make sure you’re prepared in the event the worst happens.

Winterize your car step #1: Get Supplies
This is the simplest step, keep essential supplies and tools with you in your vehicle. Here are some items you should consider putting in your trunk: A spare tire (and the tools to change a flat), a couple bottles of engine oil, washer fluid, an ice scraper and engine coolant. You should also consider keeping flashlights and flares in the event you get stuck on the road at night with low visibility. You should also put an extra coat and gloves in your trunk along with a blanket to keep you warm in the event your heat won’t work.

Winterize your car step #2: Make sure your 4WD Drive and heating units work
Unless you’ve taken your vehicle off roading, there’s a good chance you have no idea if you’re 4WD works or not. Take a few minutes to test it out! Don’t forget that having 4WD doesn’t mean you can do figure 8s around the parking lot, or drive faster than you normally would. A good thing to remember is: Its four wheel drive not four wheel stop!

For obvious reasons you’re going to want to make sure that your heat and defrosters work.

Winterize your car step #3: Check your belts and hoses, replace your wiper blades
Normally this would be checked during your 30,000 mile tune up. However, if you haven’t had a tune up lately then schedule your tune up today and make sure you ask how everything is holding up since cold weather can weaken belts and hoses. Make sure your wiper blades are up to par! Your wiper blades are made out of rubber and in time they’ll crack, split and deteriorate. A good rule of thumb is to replace them every 6 to 12 months. Another helpful hint is to make sure your wiper fluid is full, when the time comes you can use it to break up snow and ice.
Click here to schedule your service visit today!

Winterize your car step #4: Keep your fuel tank  and antifreeze full
During the cold winter months, never let your tank run on fumes. Cold and constantly shifting temperatures can cause condensation to form on the walls of a gas tank in the red and will cause water to drip down and into your gas. If this water finds its way into the fuel lines they can freeze, blocking up any flow of gas to the engine.

You’re going to also want to make sure that you keep your antifreeze full. This will prevent your fluid from freezing all the way down to -34.

Winterize your step car #5: Make sure your battery is up to snuff
Car batteries last for three to five years so keep track of how long its been since you got a new one. Remember, winter months are tougher on your engine and make your battery work harder. Check for corrosion. If there’s a white, powdery substance around the terminals you can clean it off easily with baking soda, water and a toothbrush. Make sure you also check the fluid in your battery to make sure it has enough. If its low, fill the holes with distilled water.

Winterize your step car #6: Check your tire pressure and tread
Wet or icy roads can cause accidents in the winter so make sure your tires are equipped to handle adverse weather conditions. Check the air pressure of each tire, deflated tires close up the tread and significantly decrease traction.

In its first year of eligibility the 2014 Spark is a Top Safety Pick!

The 2014 Spark has been awarded the IIHS's "Top Safety Pick"

The 2014 Spark is an amazing vehicle, there’s no doubt about that! One of the biggest questions we hear is “how safe could a car of that size be?” The answer is simple, its VERY safe! Not only is the Spark a Top Safety Pick in the first year that its eligible, it is the only vehicle in its segment to earn this rating! It didn’t just get a good score, it got a good score in the following categories: Moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

So why is this such an accomplishment? Minicars present unique challenges when designing for crashworthiness. For example, the Sparks relatively short wheelbase of 93.5 inches required the car’s front end structure to better absorb and distribute impact energy around the occupants. Check out some of the 2014 Spark’s other safety features:

  • Also assisting Spark is its high-strength steel under body and upper body.
  • The roof bow and b-pillar use high strength steel to help preserve the occupant’s space in the event of a rollover while a high strength rail is designed to protect the fuel tank.
  • The Spark’s driver and passenger front knee air bags reduce the risk of lower extremity injuries in frontal crashes. This is supported by dual stage frontal air bags, seat mounted side air bags and side curtain air bags that extend over the front and rear seating rows.
  • Lastly, the 2014 Spark has additional safety features including a rollover sensing system, 3 point safety belts in all four seating positions, the LATCH child seat attachment system, adjustable head restraints and a collapsible steering column.

Should I lease or purchase a vehicle?

We get a lot of people asking about the advantages and disadvantages of leasing as compared to buying! We put together a comprehensive guide to help you figure out which is best suited for you!

What does it mean to lease a vehicle? Leasing is very simple: Rather than paying on the total value of the vehicle, you’re only going to be paying on the depreciation of the vehicle. This means that your payment will be lower, you’ll get a new vehicle every couple of years and in addition to all of this you’ll drive a vehicle that’s always under warranty!

When you purchase a vehicle, the vehicle is yours to do whatever you please with. You can modify it, drive it as long as you want, etc. However, when you purchase a vehicle rather than lease, after the warranty is up, any repairs are on you and you’re always responsible for equity management. When you purchase a vehicle, your payment term is longer and the payment itself is higher.

Let’s look at how the payments differ:

Say you purchase a vehicle for $18,000.00 and agree to a 36 month term, before any interest or fees is charged you’re looking at a base payment of $500.00

Now, on the opposite spectrum, if you lease that same $18,000 vehicle for 36 months with a depreciation of $6,000 your payment would only be $167 before any taxes and fees.

Lease: You don’t own the vehicle, you use it and must return it at the end of your lease term (unless you choose to buy the vehicle at the end, then its yours!)
Buy: You outright own the vehicle and can keep it as long as you want.

Early Termination
Lease: If you end your lease early, there are fees (unless you do so during a pull ahead, then we take care of the fees for you!)
Buy: You can buy or sell or trade your vehicle at any time. You can use the money from the sale to pay off the balance of your loan, if need be.

Monthly Payments
Lease: Leasing is almost always going to have a cheaper payment because you only pay the vehicles depreciation during the term of your lease plus interest charges, taxes, fees, etc.
Buy: The payment is usually more expensive on a purchase because you’re paying the entire price of the vehicle, plus interest and other charges, taxes and fees.

Future Value
Lease: The future value of the vehicle has no bearing on you.
Buy: The vehicle will depreciate over the course of your loan, but when its done any positive equity is yours to use as you see fit.

Vehicle Return
Lease: Simply put, at the end of the lease you return your vehicle and walk away.
Buy: You have to deal with the selling or trading of your car when you want a different one, there’s no specified time frame.

Lease: Most leases will limit the number of miles you can drive, there are charges for exceeding your mileage but if you’re concerned you can always purchase mileage for a cheaper price than the mileage penalties.
Buy: You’re free to drive as much as you want, but the higher the mileage of your vehicle the more it depreciates the value.

Wear and Tear
Lease: At the end of a lease, any wear and tear on the vehicle is your responsibility to have fixed. However, you can purchase additional protection like Ally SmartLease that would defray any costs. Buy: You’re under no obligation to fix anything wrong with the vehicle, however any damages or mechanical issues will negatively effect the value of your vehicle.

End of term
Lease: At the end of a lease, most customers typically just lease another vehicle. This puts you in a new vehicle every two or three years.
Purchase: At the end of the term you’re free to continue to drive the vehicle or put any positive equity you have towards your next vehicle.
