When you think off the line acceleration certain cars come to mind…The Chevrolet Cruze isn’t usually one of them. However, with the emergence of the Cruze Diesel, you can completely abandon that thought. Imagine a car quick off the line and with gas sipping efficiency. Sounds like a dream right? Believe it.
The Cruze Diesel will not only deliver the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid passenger car in America, but it will deliver a segment leading 151 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to overboost your Cruze Diesel will actually deliver 280 lb-ft of torque for about 10 seconds. That’s the same torque as the 1972 Camaro Z28’s 5.7L V8. However, unlike the muscle cars of the past, the Cruze Diesel will deliver 46 mpg on the highway and an estimated 717 miles to one tank of gas.
GM Diesel Assistant Chief Engineer Mike Siegrist had this to say about the Cruze Diesel’s Overboost:
Overboost provides increased performance when the driver demands it, like when passing on the highway. When the driver leans on the throttle, the turbocharger increases the air and fuel intake over and above when the engine needs for normal torque demand.
The Cruze Diesel can sprint from 0 to 60 in about 8.6 seconds, an entire half second faster than its chief competitor, the Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI.
“Cruze Diesel’s engine is powerful, efficient and clean. It will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be while giving customers another fuel-efficient choice in the Chevrolet lineup.”
